Bowled Over

Sport is not my passion but the boys both love to play footie so Jasper was stoked when just before he broke up for the summer he had the opportunity to go on a special sports trip; however this trip was for a whole new ball game, or should that be bat game?

Jasper and some of his mates were taken to a local private school for the day to take part in a cricket coaching session and then given the opportunity to watch a match between international players and a team of 16-18 year old challengers.  Now footie I can just about deal with, but cricket! I have no idea how to play it, what the rules are or even the names of anyone involved in the sport, so when J came home with a signed mini bat I totally failed the dad-guess-who-signed-my-bat game and my on-the-spot-cricketing-terminology-pop-quizz !

Thankfully Japer was so excited about the content of the goody bag he was given that he was swiftly lenient of my cricketing incompetence, which is a good thing because even when I looked up what googly meant I’m still the non-wiser!

Googly, a ball that looks like a leg break on delivery and then moves unexpectedly in the opposite direction after it pitches. Seriously who makes this stuff up!
