EXCLUSIVE: SUMMER PROMISES

Encourage your kids to read this summer – and help them set a new Guinness World Record

Make a pledge, set a new world record at your library

Every year, the Summer Reading Challenge encourages hundreds of thousands of children to head for local libraries and discover the fun of reading books. With child-friendly themes, collector posters, stickers and certificates, almost one million kids across the UK will find that reading for pleasure is a great way to spend their summer holidays. It’s also good news for parents –  when they return to school after the break, teachers report that kids who have taken part in the Summer Reading Challenge actually avoid the dip in literacy levels that so many schools record over the long vacation.

This year’s theme, Record Breakers, sees a fantastic collaboration with Guinness World Records and kicks off in a library near you at the beginning of the summer holidays. But from Friday 10 until Monday 13 July, kids can pledge to take part over the holidays and help set a unique world record into the bargain. For more details, visit recordbreakers.org.uk/record
