The Avengers: Age Of Ultron and the rest of the fortnight’s movies

The best of what to see over the next two weeks…

The Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Starring: Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, James Spader

The sequel to one of the biggest movies of all-time is here and this time it’s, well, even bigger. While fans may have been surprised not to see the Avengers show up when Hydra destroyed S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America 2, the building of a rogue robot intent on killing everyone on the planet is enough to bring them together again. Spader voices the baddie, while Paul Bettany joins as the Vision alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen. It will be massive – and if writer/director Joss Whedon’s got anything to do about it, even better.

Child 44

Starring: Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Joel Kinnaman

Adapted from the bestseller by Tom Rob Smith, this thriller sees Hardy as a disgraced former military policeman investigating child murders in the USSR during Stalin’s regime. A formidable cast and potent source material means this has a little more bite than your usual potboiler.

Dark Horse: The Incredible True Story Of Dream Alliance

{youtube}5V0Da9HlSB4{/youtube}

Starring: Jan Vokes, Brian Vokes, Howard Davies

Racing fans will know the protagonists of this British documentary, a group of Welsh villagers who pitched in to buy and train a horse together (the Dream Alliance of the title) and found unlikely success. Horses have often made good fodder for movies – National Velvet, Phar Lap, Seabiscuit – and this film, which according to the director was intended to be the “Rocky of horse documentaries” maintains that tradition.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

{youtube}b_ld3IJ0sUU{/youtube}

Starring: Kevin James, Neal McDonough, Raini Rodriguez

Incredibly, the first one made enough money to secure a sequel. It’s not clever, but James has a lot of fans out there (possibly the same people who buy tickets to Adam Sandler movies). This one sees our portly hero head off on holiday to Las Vegas where more nefarious schemes are afoot.
