WATCH: NEW STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS TRAILER

With almost exactly eight months to go until it is finally unleashed upon the public, here’s our latest – and most comprehensive – look at the highly-anticipated space sequel…

Finally! People have been speculating for weeks, but JJ Abrams and his team have unveiled the latest trailer from the new Star Wars movie and it’s packed with glorious bounty.

Not only do we get to see Han Solo and Chewie (on board what looks very much like the Millennium Falcon), but there’s a voiceover from Luke Skywalker suggesting a relative of his is in the movie (rumoured to be Daisy Ridley’s character Rey) as well as lots more specific footage of broadsabre-wielding baddie Kylo Ren.

What is clear from the trailer is that Ridley is a kick-ass heroine, as John Boyega’s Finn is clearly following her lead as they race away from an explosion. As to who has the robot sidekick? Still difficult to tell, though we’re guessing it’s Ridley.

There’s also a glimpse of Artoo and Luke’s metal hand, a whooping Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and a suggestion of the time the movie is set in – as a speeder zooms across a barren desert, we’re struck by the wreckage of a mighty Star Destroyer.

Abrams still doesn’t offer much in the way of actual plot, but any Star Wars fans hoping for a more comprehensive look at the new characters should be pretty pleased. Kylo Ren, in particular, looks like a truly intimidating villian.

Bring on 18 December!
