This autumn’s essential playlist

Life is that little bit better with a few good tunes playing. So whether you’re streaming, downloading or buying a trusty CD – here’s what your ears need to hear…

David Bowie – Sue

The legend that is Bowie recently unveiled his latest single on Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour radio slot – and this fantastically jazz-infused, horns ‘n’ all track will feature on his upcoming compilation record, Nothing Has Changed. It actually lasts seven minutes too, which is quite something in the music world (Bohemian Rhapsody was just under six). Guaranteed calm for any commuter journey.

Out 17 November

Eminem featuring Sia – Guts Over Fear

Here’s Eminem doing what he does best – pulling out a brilliantly slick narrative, with Sia’s haunting vocals gliding superbly over the top. If he was on 8 Mile now, he’d be winning every battle. But he’s not, so he’ll probably hit the Top 10 instead. There are some bad words in there though (it is Eminem after all), so best to press play when the kids are in bed or make up some age-appropriate lyrics to sing over with.

Becky Hill – Losing

You might remember Becky from the first series of The Voice (if you’re into that kind of thing). She made it all the way to the semi-final, but failed to win the competition. But this is one up-and-coming artist who isn’t letting that minor setback get in her way. With her pal MNEK on production (ask someone young[er] if you’re not sure) and Becky’s silky vocals, this smooth electro-soul song with a sassy 80s nod, should be a definite addition to your playlist.

Out 9 November

Childish Gambino – Telegraph Ave (“Oakland” By Lloyd)

Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover has donated proceeds from the sale of his EP, Kauai, to the preservation of the Hawaiian island. Which is pretty nice of him. The song itself is a slow-burning, catchy melody. The video is a bit weird, though.

George Ezra – Blame It On Me

This is without a doubt our favourite track at the moment. Taken from the album Wanted on Voyage, which spent two week at number one in the UK charts, Blame It On Me is full of joy and inspiration, and isn’t as cheesy as it sounds. In fact, you’ve probably been singing along to this song on the radio already and you haven’t even realised.
