Ed Sheeran Quits Music, Becoming An Actor Instead

*Not really, but he is about to make his dramatic debut

Singer-songwriter, Brit-award winner and Wembley Arena-filler Ed Sheeran is trading in his guitar for a suit of armour, apparently. It’s just been announced that Ed will be appearing in new Game of Thrones-esque period drama, The B**tard Executioner, premiering on FX this autumn. Unfortunately Ed won’t be playing the axe-wielder himself, but instead has taken the role of Sir Cormac, described as “an ambitious and deadly protégé of a high-ranking church elder.” Sounds…dastardly.

Written by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, The B**tard Executioner is set in deepest, darkest, 14th Century Wales and stars Lee Jones as the dodgily named Wilkin Brattle, a warrior who becomes executioner after receiving some divine inspiration (passed on from God by Sir Sheeran himself? We are just guessing). Sheeran became mates with Sutter after recording a cover of Foy Vance’s ‘Make it Rain’ for the Sons of Anarchy soundtrack – which if not already on your iTunes, we would heartily recommend.

Ed has previously popped up in the NBC sitcom Undateable, but he was playing himself, so that doesn’t really count. He’ll be playing Sir Cedric in multiple episodes of The B**tard Executioner, and quite frankly we can’t wait to see whether he’s a ham or a hit on screen.
