Being pestered to watch TV with your little’uns? If you are given any say in the choice of programme, you may as well watch something that both of you can enjoy.  We’ve put together a handy guide to match up your Netflix guilty pleasures with cartoons and kids shows that will keep everyone entertained!

If you love: Dexter

Tune into: Scooby Doo!

Ditch the blood splattering and sinister undertones of Dexter’s crime fighting day to day life for the kid’s favourite Scooby Doo! Airing on CBBC, Scooby Doo and his Mystery Inc. team aim to solve the mysterious events that no one can seem to explain. Replace body-mutating psychopaths with monsters and ghouls, and you have a show that fulfils your Dexter cravings without scaring the smallest members of your family.

If you love: MasterChef

Tune into: First Class Chefs

MasterChef keeps the nation gripped as chefs battle it out in the kitchen, and the show’s makers have now created a kid’s version airing on Disney. Hosted by Michael Roux Jr. culinary fans can keep the certain prestige offered by MasterChef, but get to watch younger budding cooks learn the skills needed to progress in their profession. With competitors expected to perform tasks such as menu planning and sourcing the best ingredients, First Class Chefs is a must watch for kids interested in food (and their dads).

If you love: Spooks

Tune into: Danger Mouse

Having made its comeback, Danger Mouse will fulfil your thriller cravings. Rebooted with the voices of Alexander Armstrong and Stephen Fry, Danger Mouse has received critical acclaim and its a favourite for all ages. Not short on jokes, the show is more Bond-esque than Spooks and is a sure way of watching a spy go about his business with slightly less risk to human life…

If you love: Match of the Day

Tune into: Match of the Day Kickabout

Looking for a football show that allows your children to get involved without the prolonged analysis of matches? Match of the Day Kickabout offers a children’s version of Match of the Day. Focusing on interviews and fun clips it offers behind-the-scenes access to the Premier League and is a sure way for young football fanatics to learn more about the game. The show is exclusive to CBBC and also features the legend that is Robbie Savage, who is on hand to set the guests challenges.

If you love: Friday Night Lights

Tune into: Bella and the Bulldogs

Ah, Friday Night Lights – the Texas American Football drama that is all about motivational speeches and loveable characters. Fans of FNL will be pleased to hear that there is a similar kids show called Bella and the Bulldogs, centered around Bella, a cheerleader, joining her high school American football team. If you like a classic underdog story with a modern twist, this show offers nothing less – it is airing on Nickelodeon right now.
