Flush toilet finding app helps you find a public loo anywhere in the world

New app will guide you to the nearest lavvy, no matter where you are

If you've ever found yourself in the middle of a town you don't know, with a young child wailing that they really, really need a wee, and no public toilet anywhere in sight; a new app created by a university student may be the answer to your prayers.

Flush, created by 21-year-old Jake Ruston, is a free app that helps you find the nearest public toilet - anywhere in the world.

“The app accesses your GPS location to locate all the public conveniences in your area," says Jake.Jake Ruston shows off his Flush toilet finder app

“There are already 100,000 toilets listed in its database, however we are also crowd-sourcing information to add additional facilities.

“The app also provides information about whether toilets have disabled access, whether people need to obtain a key for access, and whether the facilities are free or not."

He hopes the app will prove particularly useful for people with conditions such as Crohn's or IBS, as well as being handy for tourists. But it will also undoubtedly prove its worth for those with can't-wait, can't-wait children in tow.

Its worldwide database has already been put to the test, with reviews on the app's page coming from as far afield as the US, Germany and Australia. With the capacity for users to add their own listings, it should become increasingly comprehensive as it grows in use.

“I got the idea after making an app for the London underground. A lot of people were asking me to include details of toilet facilities for London, but I decided to go bigger and design something for the whole world," says Jake, who studies at the University of East Anglia.

“I asked my family and friends about whether they thought it would be useful and they all thought it was a great idea. I think it will be really useful for almost everyone - but especially for people who are new to an area, visitors and tourists, and particularly for people with conditions such as Crohn’s or IBS.”

Flush Toilet Finder is a free app that can be downloaded for Apple devices from https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flush-toilet-finder-public/ or for Android devices from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=toilet.samruston.com.toilet
