Send your teenagers skiing – without you!
How much do you trust your kids? New holiday offer puts your faith to the test
PGL, the children’s activity holiday company, has a new location for its February half-term ski and snowboard ‘camp’ for unaccompanied teenagers, aged 13-17, in the Austrian village of Steindorf.
Hotel Schulga sits beside Lake Ossiach in the Carinthian region and provides a small and welcoming base for teenagers, with easy access to the Gerlitzen ski area – the highest peak in the area.
“Our February half-term holiday is perfect for teenagers whose family can’t, or don’t want to ski, and for kids with no opportunity to go on a school trip,” says PGL’s holiday manager, Steve Hougham.
Teenagers sleep in four-bedded en-suite rooms, though PGL are quick to add that they have staff stationed nearby, just in case you're worried about what your little treasures might get up to, far from the watchful eyes of their parents.
Après Ski for teens is just as important as daytime activities, says PGL, and the breakfast and dining room is turned into an entertainment room so your kids can socialise each evening. The village also has a large indoor ice stadium as well as a cinema, which we understand has a back row(!)
This PGL holiday departs on Valentine's Day, Saturday 14 February 2015 – ideal for kicking off a real or imagined holiday romance to tell their mates about when back at school – with supervised overnight coach travel to Austria, six nights in the resort and another overnight coach journey back, returning to the UK on Sunday 22 February.
The ski package costs £979 per child, and the snowboarding package comes in at £999 (for London or Dover departures – supplements apply for Birmingham and Manchester departures.) The package includes six days’ hire of boots, skis and poles (or boards), a six-day lift pass, between four and five hours’ ski or snowboard tuition on each of six days, and winter sports and travel insurance.
