Hull voted UK’s least romantic city

According to research conducted by Hotels.com, the city of Hull in East Yorkshire is the least romantic place in the UK, pushing Slough from the top spot of their annual Destination Romance Report

Hull, the Paris of the north

A fifth of Brits polled voted the ancient port the least romantic while, on the flip side, London has overtaken last year's winner, the Lake District, to be voted Britain’s most romantic.

Strangely though, London also features in the least romantic list in joint third place with Blackpool.

The report goes on to reveal that nearly a fifth (18%) of the nation chose the UK's capital city as the top location to take a loved one this year, with the Lake District slipping to second place with 15% of the vote. Still popular with those over the age of 45, a fifth (20%) of middle aged respondents voted the Lakes the most romantic. Both the Scottish and Welsh capitals also featured in the top 10 with Edinburgh in fourth place and Cardiff in ninth place.

At the other end of the scale, Hull was voted by a fifth (19%) of Brits to be the least romantic destination in 2015, rising three spaces from it's third position in last year's report and knocking last year's champion, Slough (which didn’t feature in this year's list at all), from the top spot. Birmingham came in second for the second year in a row with 11% of the vote, while both London (up four) and the ballroom capital Blackpool (up seven) came in at joint third place.
