ANNABELLE AND THE OTHER DVDS OUT THIS WEEK
The hottest things in home entertainment right now
Starring: Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, Alfre Woodard
What is it about scary dolls? This follow-up to stealth hit The Conjuring sees Annabelle make her way to another innocent household. Naturally – or should we say supernaturally – she gets up to all kinds of mischief. Answer? Collect Star Wars figures instead.
Starring: Roger Ebert, Chaz Ebert, Martin Scorsese
Ebert was one of the most famous movie critics in the world (think the US Barry Norman times a thousand), whose latter years were blighted by cancer and an operation which rendered him unable to talk. He took to social media with a vengeance and this doco from Hoop Dreams’ director Steve James attempts to capture the essence of the outspoken commentator. Would he give the film of his life a thumbs up or thumbs down? Decide for yourself.
Starring: Timothy Spall, Lesley Manville, Ruth Sheen
Spall has been rightly lauded for his portrayal of the British painter, in one of Mike Leigh’s historical tales. You don’t have to like art to like the movie either – Leigh and his cast construct full and interesting characters, one of whom also happens to be a wizard with a brush.
Starring: Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman
A proper big war movie, this follows a tank crew’s journey behind enemy lines on an impossible mission towards the end of World War II. Expect lots of noise, lots of testosterone and some heroic self-sacrifice. Plus Pitt plays a character called Wardaddy. Seriously.
