TERMINATOR GENISYS AND THE REST OF THE NEW MOVIE RELEASES

We're fully into the summer blockbuster season now and that's why it's time for the return of Arnie to one of his most iconic roles, as well another go-round for a foul-mouthed CGI bear. Hey, that's Hollywood...

Terminator Genisys

Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke

Apparently the key is to forget the third film and Salvation (thank goodness), because this reboot has more connection with James Cameron’s first two iconic movies. What changes here is the timeline – again. We don’t want to get into too many plot spoilers, but John Connor isn’t the hero we are used to thinking he is, while there’s an updated liquid metal robot and you get to see old Arnie fighting a young Arnie (yep). Plus Game Of Thrones star Clarke gets to swap commanding dragons for a cyborg.

Amy

Starring: Amy Winehouse

This doco about the tragic chanteuse has already received praise and bile in equal measure, the latter mainly from Winehouse’s family who feel it paints them in a negative light. Amy’s relationship with her now-semi-famous father Mitch was always interesting and this study by director Asif Kapadia, who made the brilliant Senna, is thorough and a sad reminder of a wasted talent

Ted 2

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Seth MacFarlane, Amanda Seyfried

The first movie was a low-brow, witty and very rude story about a man whose best friend is a teddy bear come-to-life. This second one – while maintaining the filth – also asks some philosophical questions, namely what does it mean to be human (don’t laugh). Ted wants to be a dad with his girlfriend, but can’t start the process until he is recognised as a proper person. It’s quite a sneaky take on civil rights, really. Honest.
