EXCLUSIVE: Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter share tips on how to become an author...

McBusted stars and children's authors, Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter, share their top three tips on making it in publishing…

Look at those faces, of course you can take them seriously...

Ever thought about writing a book? Most of us have probably wondered if we could manage it, some have perhaps even started writing down a few ideas. But the fact is, when it comes to the world of publishing, it's hard to know where to start. Earlier this year, McBusted's Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter published their third children's book from The Dinosaur That Pooped... series, and it's safe to say, the kids love them and their fictional ideas. Here, they share their top tips in creating a much-loved book...

1. 'Step one – write the book. You have to truly believe in what you're writing about and be passionate about it first – and have something to show people.'

2. 'Then it’s about finding an agent or publisher who believes in the story as much as you do, and who loves it as much as you do. We actually found it really hard to get published at first. No one really thought kids would go together with a story about poop. Luckily we weren't doing it for the money, we really loved the story so we waited until someone who believed came along.'

3. 'The final stage is accepting and learning from the agent or publisher. We know about writing songs, but we don't know about how book-publishing works – so we had to learn from people who are experts in this field, take on their advice and maybe even make a few compromises. And here we are now!'

Tom and Dougie’s latest book, The Dinosaur That Pooped The Past, is available now on Amazon. Enter here to win a copy of the Dinosaur That Pooped series.
