REVIEW: Gary’s Garden by Gary Northfield

Never underestimate the power of comic books – they can make all the difference to a kid struggling with reading

Gary's Garden

Part of a spin-off series from The Phoenix, the inventive weekly comic book for kids, Gary’s Garden is perfect for children who struggle with reading ‘chapter books’. Graphic novel artist Gary Northfield (yup, he’s the guy who draws Derek the Sheep in the Beano) gets his wacky microscope out to look at some of the hilarious small stuff going on his garden. Featuring Monroe the Ninja hedgehog, Terrence the singing snail, and Chompy the caterpillar, there’s a bit of muck and madness on every page.

David Fickling Books, out now. Age: 6+
