REVIEW: Sam & Dave Dig A Hole by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen

Sam and Dave are on a mission - they won't stop digging until they find 'something spectacular'

Sam & Dave Dig A Hole

For anyone who has ever seen a child on a beach with a bucket and spade, or even in the back garden with a trowel, finally there's a book that understands that all-too familiar fascination with digging holes. Once Sam and Dave start, they refuse to stop and carry on digging in all kinds of directions until they are so worn out that they fall asleep. Of course, that's when the 'something spectacular' finally happens. For kids who get fixated on tasks (like digging holes!) Sam and Dave's escapade is bang on target. It's a simple, stylish story that also has a straightforward and gentle lesson at its heart; keep going and don't give up until you get there. We dig.

Walker, out now. Age: 3+
