Under the plans, fathers would be forced to take a four-week block of paid leave during the first year of their baby’s life or lose the entitlement altogether.

Currently, working fathers are able to take up to two weeks of paid leave after the birth of a child paid, at a maximum of £136.78 per week, unless their employers offer more. But Nick Clegg wants the UK to follow a Scandinavian model, the Daily Mail reported.

In Sweden, fathers must take two months’ leave and are paid 80 per cent of their usual salary.
