Damian is a freelance journalist, writer and consultant specialising in children’s books. He was Editorial Director of the Daily Telegraph’s children supplement Young Telegraph, and Book Editor for T2, the Telegraph’s teenage supplement. He has reviewed for the teen press, The Sunday Times, The Financial Times and the TES, and he also edited the family column in Metro Life.
Damian has been on the judging panel for the Nestlé Children’s Book Prize, the Whitbread (now Costa) Children’s Book Prize, the Branford Boase first novel award, and regularly chairs events on the book festival circuit including Cheltenham, Bath, Hay, Imagine, at the South Bank and the recent YALC at Earl’s Court.
Damian has guested regularly on Radio London Live as a newspaper reviewer, and as Metro Life’s children’s editor, he contributed to the Vanessa Feltz show, also on London Live. He has also contributed reviews of children’s books theatre, TV and film on Radio 4’s Front Row. He is a published author of 10 children’s books including Dog In No-Man’s-Land (pub July 2014) and is the Creative Director of the UK’s biggest children’s reading programme, The Summer Reading Challenge, for literacy charity The Reading Agency. Damian lives with his wife in north London, and has two children.
