I have my daughter every weekend Fri- sun. Travel cost me £30 if I can get a lift. But £45 if I have to go on public transport and because I don't earn much that is quite a wack of my wages. But my ex still wants £25. Every time I do the online calculator its between 7-9-11£. I am confused please help.

Hi, I can sympathise with you as my ex has contacted the csa/child maintenance (out of spite may i add) and I am trying to find out more info on it as I am finding things a bit of a struggle financially myself. Was it the csa that worked out the £25 that you currently pay? I'm reading through their 'how we work out child maintenance' booklet and it says "A paying parent can ask us to take certain expenses into account. These are called special expenses and can reduce the paying parents gross income figure. You can apply for a special expenses variation for the cost of keeping up regular contact with a child or children you are paying child maintenance for- for example, the cost of fuel to travel between your home and the childs home (must be at least £10 a week)"

My ex has said she has rang csa and they said it's £25 but not sure if I trust her. When can I apply for the special circumstances because it's £30 petrol I am having to pay. Thanks

Why dont you give the CSA a call yourself?

Id say the calculator isnt wrong if you have input accurate details which Im sure you have.

Regards,

Dave

If you are putting your figures into the online calculator and it is working out at £7 to £11 but your ex is quoting £25 then i dont think i would trust her either! Maybe you would be better contacting the child maintenace service yourself if that is the case as I've not really got knowledge about this to advise you as I am only finding things out about it myself. If you do contact them then I think you would have to ask them to take your travel expenses into account as I dont think they would ask you about it. Sorry I cant be of anymore help but perhaps some of the more experienced people on the site might be able to give better advice

I have they have said between £11-£19 but they didn't say anything about travel.
May give them a call back now I know about special expenses.
Thanks

From what i have heard through other people who have had dealings with the csa/cm, there are certain expenses that can reduce how much you have to pay BUT they only consider them if you ask them. If that is indeed true, I think it is crap because they should be there to help both parents. I'm holding off contacting them myself till i get some more info on it. Good luck with it anyway and keep us posted

Yes give them a call and say you want to apply for a variation for special expenses and they will send you the form

It is only £7 they are sending me all the information out. This isn't going to go down well with the ex. Wish me luck.

Do you mean the travel expenses are £7? If that's per week, then you won't get a reduction - the CSA expect you to pay the first £15 per week in travel expenses, it's only when it goes above that is there any reduction.
