I am bringing up my daughter alone, she has lived with me nearly 3 years in which time I have received nothing. After a bitter battle child maintenance are taking money from my bank account -£6000 so far now demanding another 5000-I put a counter claim against her mother,on their advice and costing me £20 and they awarded £1 a day.My ex lives with her partner but declares no earnings-I live on my own and from 31/7 will be unemployed.I do not have the money, they have already taken what little I had and I am soon to be quite literally at the end of my rope
I am guessing that the £5k they are after is for arrears - when did you notify CMS that your daughter was living with you? I'm afraid, up to the point CMS accept this, maintenance would continue to be owed to your ex, and CMS don't backdate any claims before they are notified of any changes. The £20 was presumably the one-off application fee to open a case with them, and the £7 per week is the standard flat rate payment if your ex is on benefits of any kind - if she has no income at all, then even that minimal amount is not awarded.
I would strongly suggest you contact stepchange (
) - they are a debt management charity and can hopefully help you to manage your finances before you get into any further problems.
as your going to be unemployed, soon as you receive your job termination letter, P60/P45, get in touch with CMS and send info to them. i did and they froze my account (inc arrears), and am paying zero as I am out of work.
