TOPIC: How do you wake your child up

How do you wake your child up 2 years 6 months ago #89624

I'm at a point in the contact progression with my son where he spends enough time at my place that he needs to have a nap. His mum asks me to not let him sleep for too long, otherwise he doesn't sleep at night when he's back with her.

So the first time I was lucky because he woke up naturally at the time she had asked me to wake him up. Second time he was still asleep, so I decided to change his nappy while he slept, which woke him up suddently and upset him. Third time I I tried to be gentler in my approach, first opened the curtains, then the blinds, then I played gentle music next to him, gradually increasing the volume. It took ages, but eventually he did wake up without being upset, however, the ex then complained that he had napped for too long and didn't go to sleep until late in the evening.

So my question is, what's the best way to wake a 2-year old child up ?

Pick him up and wake him gently while holding him - that way he feels safe while waking.

... What time are you putting him down for his nap superprouddad? What does your ex consider is too long?

There is no right way really, but what actd suggests is a good idea to try.
