Hi Folks

This may sound silly to you, but last week my 12 year old son and I went to a party where the DJ played songs for about 2 hours.

Now all last week, my son keeps on complaining that he can't get the songs 'out is his head' and he can't concentrate on studying.

Do you think there is a genuine problem here or is he just playing me up? Would I need to visit the doctor?

Thanks

Sounds like he is playing with you - either that or it's similar to when you hear a tune on the radio and then can't get it out your head all day. That must have happened to you?

Hi Folks

Thanks for your replies.

I spoke to the doctor this morning, and she said he may need counselling !!

Has anybody had experience of this?

Funnily enough I read an article on this some time ago.
Hope this helps a bit

Seriously? What for, there must be something more serious going on than just hearing music playing over and over in his head?

Hi geek84,

Did the Dr say why she thought your son needed counselling?

She said it is only a slight possibility. She would need to do thorough examination before being referred to a counsellor.

If he isn't having any other difficulties that does sound strange to me - though i am not a Dr. I say this partly because i have usually got at least one song going round in my head!

I hope things go ok - is it the same song continuously?

You could try playing classical music - that might get the tune out of his head.

Or if he's playing with you, he might admit defeat.

It all sounds very odd. Is he still claiming to hear the music ?

Yes, and the doctor is going to refer him to a counsellor.

By pure chance, I came upon an article about a form of tinnitus called musical hallucinations - it could be this.
