Hi Folks

I am thinking of going into the teaching profession, and teaching adults or young people in their late teens at my local college or adult learning centre. I don’t really want to teach primary/secondary school children because I know I won’t be able to control the children!! By the way, I want to teach numeracy/maths or AAT (accounting qualification).

I know you need qualifications such as PTLLS and DTLLS (as specified by the life-long learning sector?). I already have a PTLLS qualification.

Would I need further qualifications such as DTLLS in order to teach adults?
Are there any teaching/lecturing jobs where further qualifications aren’t needed or you can train or the job?
What other work avenues could I go into in the event that I can't find a job in a college or adult learning centre?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

You might be best asking the college directly. There is still a shortage of maths teachers - I don't know what level you are at, but A level maths is pretty advanced stuff I think, and that's what you are going to be teaching if you are teaching older children. No idea about AAT though.
