TOPIC: Parental Responsibility

Parental Responsibility 3 years 9 months ago #71853

i have a daughter i don't see, i was not on the birth certificate so i applied to the courts which has been altered. i then had to go to court for access, in which the saga drawn out that long i financially cant afford to carry on pursuing so iv withdrawn my application which now leaves me with no parental responsibility. i just want to know will i still have to pay the mother child maintenance an if so is there any way around not paying into her account as i dont believe the money will ever go to my daughter.

If you had the birth certificate altered via court then you have parental responsibility. Even though you withdrew from the court without being granted a final order for contact, you are still financially responsible for your child. Contact and maintenance are two entirely separate issues and one is not reliant on the other.

Maintenance payments are a contribution to the overall care of the child, which includes things like keeping a roof over her head, keeping her fed and warm and clothed and paying for activities. So although you may not think the money you provide is being spent on your daughter exclusively, it is going towards providing for her more generally.
