According to The Independent on Sunday the average family only spends 49 minutes together a day ! ( have a look
As a parent of a temperamental and hormonal teenager who seems to want to spend every moment of her waking time away from her parents ( unless she is after something of course) I can understand how these statistics add up.
We eat together, watch "certain" programmes together and when she feels like it even walk the dogs together but all under a cloud of moodiness, sometimes I have to say it's worth caving in for the peace and quiet.
We played a board game this morning which took more than that.... slightly embarrassed to admit it was scrabble and i came last.. I'd like them to think i lost on purpose but they were all scoring in the teens with every word!!!!! Must have been the help i was giving them.....
One way we have found to get good family time is to create family traditions like :
1. Watching Dr Who together
2. Pizza on tuesdays (domino's if we can afford it)
3. Eating together and doing 'high / low' most evenings
4. Board games on bank holidays...
Funny as i look back but some of the most simple stuff (i pooh poohed at the time it was suggested) has actually been the most effective.....
