I am brand spanking new to this forum so apologies if this subject has cropped up a zillion times before.
I am recently divorced and work offshore so my ex is classed as the main carer. Our youngest son has been accepted in a school that i approve of however his mum has moved out of the area and wants him to go to another school that is closer to her house even though it is of a lower standard. She never keeps me informed of what she does concerning our boys regardless if i am offshore or not. How can i stop her from making important decisions like this on her own without consulting me first.?
Strictly speaking, as you have PR, your ex should be consulting you on decisions such as education. However, the courts (should it go there) would recognise that as she is the parent with care, practical considerations come into consideration when making such decisions. As such, you are probably, more realistically, looking more for at least being notified of her intentions in advance so you can at least offer advice, opinions (as long as it doesn't turn into an argument) and support.
It could be worth considering mediation to see if you and your ex can come to any understanding in the future.
