I've recently found out that my local county council (Surrey) has changed the School admission policy for 2013 to include previously looked after children in their number one priority , it always had Looked after children as the number one priority.
Their list of priorities starts with:
"First priority: Looked after and previously looked after children"
This would have made a massive difference to me when I applied to schools and was offered our third choice. Applying for a school place is stressfu, especially when you don't get the school of your choice. It took me well over 6 months to get into the school we hoped for and it was only confirmed in the August - a few weeks before school started in September.
Perhaps this is only happening in Surrey - does anyone know about their council?
If your little has been 'looked after', it might be worth checking with your council to see what their admission process says about previously looked after children.
