TOPIC: Help - Am I doing all I can?

Help - Am I doing all I can? 5 years 11 months ago #27301

Hi all,

With my son now approaching is 3rd month out of school i am wondering if what I have been told and what I am doing is all I can do.

Basically my ex moved 35 miles away from my boys school and lost her ability to travel (car died) This happened back in September, doing what i could i offered for him to come with me so i could get him into school (his school at the time was a 20 min walk from my front door) however this was expensive and as soon as i mentioned switching the benefits and getting done properly i was accused of trying to steal him etc..

I couldn't and still cant afford to get him to school (after school care was £480 a month alone!)

Anyway i spoke to the school and informed them of were he was now living, they confirmed that this should aid in getting him into a school or at least on a waiting list sooner - however this was all reliant on her filling in the forms sending them off and actually doing everything she could to get him into school. Evidently this was note done and now she is moving back to where she was previously and looking to get him back into the same school - this is fine, however he would obviously need to go on a waiting list (or so i have been told)

I phoned the councils to try and check on the progress, if they had received the forms need and everything else like that. First time i got loads of information about what she needs to to, second time i was told that they couldn't tell me anything about his schooling - not sure if this is correct....

I am desperate to get him back into school as soon as possible but from i can gather there is nothing i can do to facilitate this as the none-resident parent - is this accurate? is there something i can do to push this issue and get him into school sooner rather than later.

He turned 5 in march and from what i know it is only since then that it is a crime that he is not in school - i assume this is accurate?

I am getting very concerned that should this be left to his mothers desecration that he simply wont go to school for one reason or anther until September at the earliest!

Any advice would be greatly received!!

Cheers

Vaz
