Hi all, I'm a dad living abroad and thinking it's time to try to pass along some idea of what it means to be English to my primary age kids.
I'm not at all into claiming some superior identity or whatever, but rather giving our kids an appreciation that our language and outlook on life have some long stories behind them and quite a mixed bag of influences pretty much all the way.
I looked at Ladybird books which are about the right level right now, but they seem a bit period-focussed, I just want to get across the idea that a load of different Angles, Saxons, etc etc. arrived and mixed with the locals and formed a society over the ages. Like "Our Island History" but maybe a lot simpler and with more pictures?
