TOPIC: parenting plan

parenting plan 3 years 7 months ago #73479

Hi,

I've been trying to get my son's Mother to discuss and agree a parenting plan. However she just can't be bothered, which doesn't bode well for successful parting between us now or in the future.

Another sticking area is that I have been asking her to tell me which surgery he is registered with and the name of his GP. Again she just seems to ignore my requests for this information.

Any suggestions on tactics I can use to get her to better co-operate with me?

Also she seems to be adopting the I need to be nice to her before she will communicate with me type of approach...

Thanks in advance for replies

Hi

Reactions like this are quite normal. But you do not say if contact is being blocked - or any other details.

The first thing to do is to attempt mediation (you will need to attend an initial meeting called a MIAM first). You can find a mediator from the below links.

www.familymediationcouncil.org.uk/
www.nfm.org.uk/

They will write to your ex (or call her) to invite her to a MIAM/mediation also. Mediation is now a formal court recognised process - and the petitioner to court must have attended a MIAM before being allowed to apply for a non-urgent child arrangements order.

If your ex refuses this - then this will enable you to apply to court, if necessary. But from the information you have provided - it is unclear if court is necessary.

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to post reply. I can confirm access is quite amicable at the moment, largely because she is now working two days a week and I look after my son whilst she's at work...so poss arrangement of convenient more than anything. I'm pretty sure is she stopped working, access would then be reduced...

We have tried mediation before and that is how it led to me meeting my son for the first time aged 6 months. I guess I could recontact them again, however it can take weeks to get results plus it can be costly if don't qualify for financial assistance.

Was planning to call Social Services tomorrow to explain circumstances that I am the Father of x and his Mother is not responding to my requests of wanting to know which surgery she registered him with and the name of his GP. I know exactly where I stand from in terms of ethics....however I would e interested to see what they say in regards to where i stand legally.
