TOPIC: Brother wedding - I'm on holiday! Oops

Brother wedding - I'm on holiday! Oops 6 months 5 days ago #96151

Brother is a complete nightmare. He lives in a fantasy land where what he says and what happens are different things. His head is a whole different planet.

So I don't get involved and take everything with a pinch of salt.

This xmas he told me he couldnt have Dad over Xmas day because he was away. Nothing booked it appeared in the end - all in his head.

Hes got a GF that hes been on about getting married for years. Believe it when I see it. Anyway, he told everyone he was definitely getting married next summer - yeh ok if you say so.

I've got holiday booked in May - was booked a few months ago. Well, flights with Ryanair. £800 or so for the family. So brother announces hes getting married in may - no date.

No invite yet and he hasnt even told me. Even Dad is unsure of the date. BUT, bit of digging (i.e. his facebook posts) it looks like when I'm on holiday.

Of course, I'm going to look the bad one now because I can't cancel with Ryanair and I ain't willing to stop my kids because my useless brother won't get organised. To be honest, I'm not sorry missing the wedding, its no kids registry office and pub so not a big deal anyway. Also, my mrs wont want to go because she thinks hes a dick - which he is.

Dad will likely get involved when he shouldnt and tell me I have to go to my brothers wedding.

What do you all think about this?

Hi There,

If you have a holiday booked and you aren't able to change it then not much you can do.

You could drop into a conversation with him that you have booked a holiday in May, do it before he does give you that date of the wedding, that way he knows before hand that you have something booked.

I agree with GTTS - you'd already booked the holiday, and he hadn't told you the date, and since you don't really want to go, I'd stick with the holiday, especially if you cancel, it sounds like it would cause friction between you and your Mrs.
