Hi everyone, this is my first time on this forum. I have been paying CSA/CMS for many years and really don't have the time or the typing skills to go into too much detail of the nightmares I have suffered at the hands of ex partners and government agencies!! However, I do have one question which I don't think would be best practice to ask CMS directly!
I have been engaged to my partner since 2012 and have decided that its about time I married her! We have been discussing finances and whether a joint account would be the best way forward.
So with a joint account in mind, would this affect my payments and/or would the CMS take my fiancés income into account?
As I remember, once upon a time, the CSA did take any partners income, then they stopped and now its the CMS.....???
I would appreciate any advice offered. Thanks.
I think that was the very early days of CSA, later on they only took a proportion of her child tax credits into account. I agree with Bill though, use a separate account, it makes life much easier. If you want to pay bills out of a joint account with a new partner, then by all means open a joint account and both pay into this, but don't pay child maintenance out of it.
