TOPIC: Whos responsible for dropping kids off?

Whos responsible for dropping kids off? 3 years 4 months ago #75391

So I split up with my ex not that long ago. We have a mutual agreement on how many nights I have the kid and how much to pay. The issue we have is who drops the wee one off.

In my opinion I think she should be the one dropping the kid off and on time. (50% input from her)
I then drop the kid off on time at the agreed time (50% input from me) - Reason why is so she cant turn around and say aww I cant make it through etc and screw my plans.

So we are in battle as she thinks because I drive and she don't that confirms I should do both runs. We like 20 miles away from each other so that's 80 miles per drop.

What are your inputs or agreements you guys have in place if your in the same boat ? Thanks

I drive 120 miles every Saturday for pick ups and drop offs. She doesn't drive and refuses to make anything easier for us. If I didn't drive we wouldn't have any access, simple as that. Not fair, but not just us having to do this I'm sure.

Hello publication1,

Have you considered or suggested meeting halfway for both picking up and dropping off?

What would her journey involve if she's on public transport?
I also don't think her agreeing to drop off would prevent her saying she can't get there. If anything it would make it more likely!

My husband does all pick ups and drop offs. It's about 2 hours round trip there and back. She doesn't contribute to fuel either.

Meeting half way is probably the best option.

Edited to add - I think it's often the person who moved away that ends up doing the travelling.

Travel is a very grey area, in court it's becoming more common for CAO's to order the parents to share the travel by meeting half way or doing one journey each.

If she's dropping the child to you and using public transport, you might have to accept her time keeping will be at the mercy of buses or trains.

You have to work on what is in the child's best interests, not the parents.

In my situation, I always used to offer to undertake the travel responsibilities as I was the only parent with a car & driving license. I figured it was nicer for the children to be in the car with me than on public transport, especially during the winter months.

I have several years experience supporting parents in family proceedings as a McKenzie Friend. I am, however, not a lawyer or barrister and my responses are based on my own opinions or experiences of the family court.
