About to separate with the wife, need help.

Hi,

really need some help. Me and my wife married for 13 years have one son (5.5 years old), I think we are not working things out so guess it’s the done deal now, we haven’t started the process yet.

I am making quite a lot of money - 141K a year + 20K bonus, wife is not working even if she can but she never wanted to.

we have a house in the UK under my own name, which is about 550-600K and has 240K mortgage. We have saving around 150K. These are all my money, everything are either from me and family. I know this will be split, but what I don’t know is about the spouse maintainace, we are both 40 years old, son is at full time school (private which I am paying it all). My wife was in China for 4 years, due to the previous big conflict we had I was paying initially 1200 pound then dropped to 500 then raised to 700 a month to her basically for son, and I was also paying the son private school fee partially during the last 2 years they were staying there, which was 10K a year.

then I was saving and saving and saved 165K, where 150K are in saving now and 15K we used a bit got a new car.

Just wondering if we go separate, I know I will definitely be screwed, but I will try my best to smile and keep rest of my life happy.

so here is the thing, my wife family basically has money, they supported her 4 years staying in China, cos she spent a lot in average, she is also LSE graduate and has ACCA certificate but refuse to work.

how much spouse maintenance and for how long I will end up with if this goes through court ?

Big thanks for any help

There are some guides on the advicenow.org.uk website which might help.  You should probably get some legal advice too.  You will have to pay child maintenance unless you share child care 50/50.  There is a calculator on the CMS website which will show how much this will be
