TOPIC: Caught hand in door

Caught hand in door 2 years 15 hours ago #92075

Hi all, not even sure if this is in the right place but here goes.

The little man was staying over last night and everything went well until I was bringing him out to the car to bring him to school (creche). I was closing the passenger door after putting some stuff in whilst he stood beside me and he put his hand between getting it caught in the door! Needless to say my heart skipped a beat. It didn't close the whole way and I pulled it open straight away. I beought him back up to the house and he was sobbing a bit. Checked his hand and from what I can see it seems fine. Within a minute he was using it as normal; lifting, pulling, pushing with it. He's 2.5 years old now and is able to communicate well when I asked him questions such as 'are you ok' or 'is your hand sore'. It really didn't seem to bother him and there was no swelling or anything. I told a girl in creche there to keep an eye on him and have been on the phone checking up and he's using both hands same as normal.

Actually feel a bit silly now posting this but just worrying if I did the right thing or not. I haven't told his mum yet as it only happened this morning and I haven't been speaking to her. I'm worried how she might react even though he seems fine.

Suppose all I'm looking is some reassurance. The girl in creche said she would call if anything seems off and that these things happen all the time. I just know I'll sit here worrying the rest of the day.

Hi There,

I think as long as he was using it ok and there was no swelling then you did the right thing, just pass on to your ex that it happened, it's better that she hears from you rather than anyone else, and it was just an accident.

Hi there

You did all the right things, luckily small children's bones are soft and pliable, that's why they can have so many tumbles and escape injury free.

It doesn't matter how careful we are as parents, all children have accidents, it can take a split second! It sounds like there was no harm done.

Telling your ex is the only part that could be tricky, you would think children never hurt themselves when in the charge of the mother, that's simply not true, I hope she was reasonable about it anyway.

All the best

Quick update on this incase anyone finds themselves in a similar situation. The wee man was totally fine and no damage done at all. I had actually forgot all about the incident until I logged on today for the 1st time in a while!
