TOPIC: Spip and cafcass

Spip and cafcass 3 months 3 weeks ago #99733

Hi guys

Basically after 3 and a half years of being split from my ex she took me to court under false allegations. I'm due to do a spip course on saturday plus cafcass are coming to mine and my wifes home next week.

Everything was fine until my ex found out that me and my wife had a baby. I have a daughter my wife has 3 kids and we have a baby together and out of pure jealousy my ex is trying to make it rain hell over me and my family after 3 and a half years! Been to court once and again in 2 months.

I was just wondering what to expect at spip and with the cafcass visit

Many thanks in advance!

Hi there

Here’s some info about the SPIP course, where you’ll find links to a brief fact sheet and to a much more detailed handbook.

www.cafcass.gov.uk/grown-ups/parents-and...formation-programme/

A visit to your home by cafcass is stressful, just try and be yourselves, make sure that your home is child proofed and clean and tidy and that the child’s room (if there is one) is safe and welcoming.

Honesty and keeping everything child focused is important, share concerns in a constructive way, without bad mouthing or using tit for tat.

Best of luck

Hi there,

SPIP course is basic. you can either do one 4 hour session, or 2 hour sessions over 2 days. I did the 4 hour one. found evening one close to work. you will watch videos about parents and kids, and teaching you to avoid putting kids in centre of conflict between you and ex. they put you into groups with other parents, and you just talk, brainstorm and write stuff down about parenting scenarios.

as for cafcass visit, for me I just got invited to their London office for interview. questions about relationship breakdown, asking about wifes allegations against me, what kind of child contact do I want. is ex a bad mother, does she have mental health issues? that kind of thing. dont make it seem shes a bad mother. deny all false allegations and just be honest. i recommend you visit cafcass site, order or print off their parenting plan. complete in time for the cafcass meeting and show it them. will show that your a very committed dad. they will prob look around your house. make sure place is tidy, theres no dangerous objects, hazards anywhere etc.

I second all the above.

It's important to keep everything child focused and speak from their perspective rather than yours or the mothers.

Most Cafcass officers are usually fine and the visit isn't anything to worry about.
