TOPIC: If I'm a slave would I know?

If I'm a slave would I know? 2 years 2 months ago #84134

My wife is great. She takes care of our 3 kids makes dinner. After reading some of the other guys problems mine kind of seems not important. Like the weed head going to Narcotics Anonymous meeting.
I work 50 or more hours a week. I got what feels like tricked into doing my own laundry. So, while i get a few hours off at night plus weekends I take over her responsibility of taking care of the kids. Which I love doing, it is what I do any way, it is my favorite thing to do. It is rare that I get time to do what I want to do, I have to manage time to do my damn laundry. I can't take the kids mountain biking yet, shooting, adult swimming,
Honestly I'm mostly fine with the arrangement She does do a lot and it is hard work being a stay at home mom. I hear these stories though of going to friends house for half the day, going to the pool, knitting, hobbies. It seems like she retired when she got pregnant. I love being a dad and husband. I feel like if I didn't I would still be financially obligated to my wife and kids on top of myself. I guess having to pay for two households. It's a bitch paying for one how are you suppose to pay for two?

I know I can't be the only dad that feels like he is being taken advantage of.

Hi there

Have you tried talking to her about it? I sense the stirrings of a little bit of resentment and it's unwise to let this simmer away under the surface....it will start to affect your relationship, at some point if it's left.

Doing the laundry isn't a huge task but it can be time consuming...how about putting a wash on at night so that it's ready to hang out/put in the drier before work. Keeping on top of it y doing a daily wash is easier and frees up precious time that can be spent doing fun things with the family.

All the best

Hello diveinfoods,

I would try not to cause an issue over the laundry but at the same time it is obviously niggling you.

Could you try to redress the balance by asking if she would kindly pop a few things of yours in the washer when she does hers or the children's washing? The washing machine must be on a tremendous amount and a few things of yours added each time would be a minimal inconvenience, I would have thought. You will then see how big an issue it is between you both.

Depending on her reaction you will be able to gauge whether you need to have a chat about it before it snowballs out of proportion.

Hi There,
.
I think as the others have said you need to talk with your partner about things.
.
How do you feel as though you were tricked into doing your own laundry?
.
I also work 50-55 hours a week but I have to say that I still feel that I should be working towards the house work when I'm at home, I don't during the working week as I'm too tired, but at the weekend I will do as much as I can.
