My son is living in Northern Ireland and he has left school at the age of 16. He will now start a 4 day college course studying 18 hours a week, but he is still living with his mother. Could you please tell if I still need to continue to pay monthly contributions to his mother?
In Northern Ireland, child benefit ends when a child turns 20 if they remain in approved education or training:
Education: Full-time education, such as A levels, NVQ level 3, or home education that started before age 16.
Training: Approved training, such as foundation apprenticeships.
If a child is 19, they must have been in full-time education or training continuously, or have enrolled before age 19.
The Child Benefit Office must be notified if a child leaves approved education or training.
