Hi,
has anyone had to deal with the CMS concerning child joining armed forces ?
my son left full time education aged 17 in July 24 and went into basic training with navy on 16th September 24 for 10 weeks basic training whilst living away from his home. Training is over 24 hours per week and is being paid as well as them going on to full time navy again living away from home
contacted CMS concerning payments and all I got was as long as child benefit is being paid then maintenance payments continue!
child benefit said they continue to pay whilst in armed force for 20 weeks!.
has anyone else been in this situation?
seems really unfair that maintenance is still paid even whilst living away and earning (pretty good ) money ?!
yes, according to this, child benefit can be extended for child that joins armed forces:
- And child maintenance is COMPLETELY linked with child benefit !!
even when living away ! Seems crazy !!
Did you get anywhere with this?
Can't seem to find a definitive answer.
My son is 17, and joined the army foundation college at Harrogate.
He comes back at half term and is paid a full time wage.
Do I have to pay child maintenance for him, it's not full time education but is it recognised as equivalent training?
Army training is listed as unpaid
