hi all, im new to this forum thing so bear with me if you have all seen this before, i have three children, my eldest has just turned 18 but is still in school so am paying maintenance till the end of the year, im cool with that... what is really annoying me is when i stop paying for him at the end of the year the annual payments for the other two rise by a third!!!!! [censored], rang CSA today, they couldnt give me a real answer as to why, hoping someone out there can explain it to me....

My understanding is that if you are paying for more than one child you get a reduction so the more you pay for the bigger the reduction, so if you are paying for one less you would loose the reduction gained for that child.
I don't know I agree with this but it is how the system works.

The total amount you pay should go down, the amount per child will increase. With 3 children, you pay 25% of your income, so 8.33% per child, with 2 children, 20% of total income, so 10% per child, and with one child it's 15%. I think the basis is that there are certain costs with the household irrespective of how many children (heat, light etc), after which there are certain costs that are dependant on the number of children (eg food)
