[Solved] Confused by CSA

I have for the last year, had a private agreement with the mother of my daughter, where i put her payments into her bank account. but recently she's started asking for more, and to save me having to keep declining, we both agreed to go through the CSA to do this by the book, i don't mind if the payments increase, as long as its fair, and it might stop her nagging for a little while as well. So I phoned CSA myself this morning, to get the ball rolling. My question is, do i carry on paying her privately now? or wait until the CSA are involved? I'm not being tight, its just i have heard people say that it takes 12 - 14 weeks, and i'd hate to be paying her all that time, and the CSA hit me with a bill that's backdated to today, so in effect i'll be paying her twice for the next 3 months. It's all new to me and very confusing, any help or information would be appreciated.

Steve

Hi there

I think the best way to deal with this is to make a standing order for the payment to be paid into her bank account. You can then reference it as child maintenance payments for (name of child). You could also put the payments aside so that when the claim is up and running you have the funds available to pay the arrears. Have you asked the CSA what they advise in this situation?

If you google the CSA calculator and input your details you will be given an amount that you will be asked to pay, then you will have a good idea of how much you should start paying or putting to one side.

Yes, agree 110% with the advice NJ has given - if you continue paying, you need absolute proof that you have been paying AND what it's for (there have been cases on here in the past where the CSA have ignore payments made because "it could have been for anything".
