[Solved] CSA Settlement

Hi everyone, I have been paying a considerable amount of payment every month since 2006 and the final payment will be in 2019. As I have paid a majority of the arrears, does anyone know if the CSA would agree an settlement figure rather than pay until 2019 ?

As an overview, my previous children, do not go to college or university, one is now a mother and the other is working in another country. I just want to come to a settlement figure i.e. don't pay until 2019.

Any help on this topic is much appreciated.

When you say a settlement figure - do you mean for the normal payments, or for the arrears?

If it's just for the arrears, then I don't see why they wouldn't allow you to pay this at any time. If it's for the normal monthly payment, I've never heard this being done, and I very much doubt that they would allow it - generally, if you are working, it's more the norm for your pay to increase over time, so they'd want to have a proportion of that, and equally, the CSA wouldn't want to rule out additional maintenance if you suddenly came into some money. If you have a lump sum, then the easiest way is to put it into a bank account of some sort and pay the maintenance from that, so you don't see it coming out - or put it into premium bonds, you may just hit the jackpot.

Apologies for the delay in replying.

Lets same for example there is £18,000 outstanding. I have remarried and I have a little bot, but in order to move forward I need to end the outgoing cost to the CSA. At the moment I can not move home because of the CSA payment. Therefore, if I was to call the CSA to end the payment, could a compromise been drawn up, to pay a lump sum of £10,000 and then the rest of the £8,000 arrears would be void.

I'm not sure but I haven't heard of CSA arrears being negotiable.

I agree - I can't see the CSA going for that - there is not incentive at all for them to do so, they are going to get all of the money in the long run if they keep persuing you.
