[Solved] How can a working father get help with living cost

I'm a father who works as a nurse full time. My work pattern involves shifts where I could be working from 7am one day and from 12.45 pm the next. So shifts scattered all over the place. I'm separated from my daughters mother and have ended up in a room at a shared flat owned by the NHS, my employer.

Is there any help out there with getting a flat other than council as I'm on the mortgage still where my daughters mother remains with the new guy she's moved in, so the council will not entertain putting me on the list. Also, are there and beneits or incentives available to me as a single working father. I have my daughter 3 out of 7 days a week and she is ten. My current accomodation is totally not right for having a child over.

I'm also paying off some debts that came out of our marriage as is my wife.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi

If you are paying maintenance through the CSA, then it may be that the debts from the marriage could be partially offset against the maintenance, it's worth speaking to the CSA about that.

With regards to any benefits, as you are a nurse, you could be eligible to help or discounts under a key worker scheme - the best people to advise you would probably be the nurses union if you are a member of one. I would certainly say that you need to come off the mortgage, and again the union should be able to assist with legal advice.
