Hi Yes, new to this site, so hope I'm doing it right?? Can anyone help with this question - how can I pay the CSA? I don't have a bank account and don't want them to deduct from my earnings (they have said they want to do this). They haven't actually given me a calculation yet but I've offered to start voluntary payments. Can anyone help?

I'm not sure whether the CSA will allow you to pay into a bank by bank giro credit, it's worth asking. Otherwise, I can't see an alternative to deduction from earnings unless you are prepared to open a bank account. Whatever you do, don't pay cash direct to your ex as you won't have proof that you've paid.

She can demand whatever she wants, but you don't have to pay any more than the CSA assess you for.

The savings for travelling isn't massive - you can deduct any reasonable travel costs in excess of £15 per week from your takehome pay, and the resulting figure is the base figure for the CSA calculation.

For example, if you take home £1500 per month, and are assessed at 15% for one child, you would be paying £225 per month in maintenance. If you spend £500 per month in travel, you could take off about £440 per from your takehome pay, so you would be paying 15% of £1060, which is £159 - so your payments only go down by £66 per month even though you are paying £500 in travel costs. Having said that, anything is better than nothing.

I should add, the CSA expect you to take the cheapest form of travel unless there is a good reason why you can't do so.
