[Solved] Mortages and CSA payments

I am separated and left my ex 2 1/2 years ago and have since continued paying a £450 monthly mortgage. My ex continues to live there with my 3 kids (all under 16) and her new partner has lived therefor the past 12 months.
I have just received CSA forms to fill in and return and have used their calculator which says I will have to pay £400 per month.
Is the mortgage payment taken into consideration, the mortgage is still in joint names. It would seem very harsh for me to pay a mortgage for a property I don't live in , £400 CSA plus all my usual monthly bills

Thanks
Neil

Hi Neil 🙂

Theres a sticky situated at the top of the finance section called "How does the CSA calculate Payments" which links to a CSA leaflet. It mentions in there about taking account of mortgage repayments.

Why doesnt the new partner pay any of the mortgage, why should he get a free ticket! That must be very annoying for you.

There should be a reference number on the letter you got from the CSA and a telephone number, why dont you give them a ring and ask if a variance of the maintenance can be applied in your case for the mortgage repayment.

Good luck 🙂

Hi Neil.

Thank you for your post. I am William the Child Maintenance Options consultant.

We are a different organisation to the Child Support Agency (CSA), but I will try and point you in the right direction.

In some circumstances, the CSA can take account of mortgage payments. You would need to the CSA directly and tell them of your concerns. You will find their contact details on any letter they have sent you. Or, on their website at: https://www2.dwp.gov.uk/csa/v2/en/setup/apply-by-telephone.asp

If this cannot be done, you could try and discuss the child maintenance and mortgage payments with your children's mother, explaining that you cannot afford to pay both and see if you could come to an alternative arrangement between yourselves.

If you would like to know how Child Maintenance Options can help you and for access to useful tools and forms online you can visit http://www.cmoptions.org, or if you would prefer a confidential chat you could call the Child Maintenance Options team on 0800 988 0988 (free from a landline).
