Hi there,

Hopefully somebody can help!!

I have booked a weekend away with my fiancee and my two girls age 9 and 12 who are from my first marriage. My 12 old has now turned round and said she doesnt want to go even though it is not till december 2013. Her reasons being she doesnt want the friday and monday off school. She keeps pestering me saying she doesnt want to go! i may be reading to much into this but my ex can be quite manipulative towards me and has been worse since i have been engaged! obviously I cant make my daughter come with us because she can stay with her mum, but not sure what to think or do! any advice would be great

My 2 cents would be to sit down with your daughter and address each point.

i.e. What is the reason you do not wish to be off school Friday, Monday and dig into it that way.

At each point if you can address the concern and provide a mutually agreeable soloution then you may win her round.

It could be she will miss her friends or hoemwork or a test etc.

If doing this is likely to cause conflict between you and her is there someone else in the family who could do this?

Regards,

Dave

As a separate issue - new Education Regulations 2013 state "headteachers may not grant leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances" - both parents and the school can be prosecuted for breaches of this.

I agree with actd, you cant take children out of school these days.. Bit restrictive I know but you can actually be stopped at the airport and asked for the permission letter. I actually got stopped by a policeman..
