I have asked my ex partner for 2 overnight visits a week with my 18 month old daughter. To which she has agreed. I was happy with this but have since changed my mind and want more. My ex is now talking about it going to court as we are unable to agree. I feel like I am being punished because she was the one that caused the relationship to fail. Why should I only see my daughter two nights a week when it was her that destroyed everything!!!

If we we're to go to court what are the chances of being given more or less contact???

I'll be the devils advocate here.......but you're a man so therefore you are being unreasonable to ask for more time with your child!!!
by the way that is my attempt at sarcasm before i upset anyone here!

my own thoughts are that any time with the children is whats most important....but i would like for it to be shared better so that the kids get equal time with each parent.....although with the fact that a resident parent reciving benefits is better off preventing overnights beacuse she would get less child support money!!

Quality time is whats most important i feel......the old saying "Quality over Quantity" comes to mind.

When i first started out using a solicitor i was told that the most likey contact would be a weekend with 2 overnights every fortnight and one over night per week would be "the norm" and usually the minimum the courts would suggest.....although i'm not 100% on that these days since my battle is now into its 3rd year and i've no overnights or even full days yet! but thats because my ex is particularly un-reasonable and to be frank...a proper control freak!

oh i forgot to add.....if you go down the court route you could get no contact for a starter until "she who must be obeyed" says so!

read some of the guys stories on here and you'll see some very similar paterns when being forced to go down the legal route for more contact!

Hi I think at 18 months 2 nights a week is a good start and would accept this with a time scale plan to increase. My son has 2 days a month, with a 200 mile round trip and restrictions on who he can have with him and where he goes, we are in the court process for over night stays and its very stressful
. Its a rubbish system, I think the court usually give alt weekends and one night in the week like dad-i-d said, but as she is only 18 months you would get less. So I would advise you to bite her hand off for 2 nights a week and enjoy the time,

Hi there

As unfair as it seems I have to agree with ak57, because of her age the court might well consider her too young to be away from her mother for 2 nights a week. Take what is offered with a view to increasing it later on as your daughter gets older. Once the mum is usewd to having time without her she may well relax her stance. Good luck! 🙂

Hi could you not maybe have her for a few hours on an extra evening or weekend day? I think 2 nights a week is good for 18 months I wont let my ex have our baby for 2 nights a week as I feel its too much for him yet but thats my opinion
