Hi Folks

I have some old photos and videos of my kids when they were very young. Some of the videos are still on HI 8 camcorder tape. How can I transfer them on to dvd without guaranteeing that the original copies won't get damaged in any way? I have tried contacting various retailers who don't sell the tapes anymore, so I haven't got the option of making another copy on tape before transferring on to dvd.

Also, how can I protect the photos? I don't want them damaged or lost in case the house gets broken in to etc?

Thanks for any advice offered.

For the photos, buy a photo scanner and save them to a DVD, and put this somewhere safe (friend/relative) or use something like dropbox or skydrive etc, or an external hard drive

Have you got the camcorder still? If so, you can get cables and little gizmos which allow you to capture the output from the camcorder to your computer, and again, you can put them onto DVD etc

Failing which, google it and you'll find plenty of services willing to transfer the pictures and video. I have to do the same sometime except I have hundreds of reels of cine film.
