I am looking for my rights concerning my 4 yr old daughter. We have been seperated 18 months (never married). My ex is planning to move 100 miles to live with new partner. Charlotte has just started school. What are my rights concerning the move and contact. Thank you.

The basic principle is that the parent with care can move anywhere within the country as long as there is a genuine reason for the move (ie not moving with the main intention of making contact difficult), so moving to be with a new partner would be classed as a genuine reason, and the courts would be extremely unlikely to prevent the move. You have a right of contact, and if it went to court, the fact that the distance is making contact difficult may have a bearing on what contact you would be awarded (eg perhaps longer periods during school holidays). The best starting place is to see if your ex would be prepared to agree to a reasonable level of contact in the first place, and if you can't agree, then consider mediation - court should only really be the last resort.
