[Solved] Tattoos

Hi

Just found out via Facebook that my son has had two tattoos done on the tops of his feet. I'm really quite upset about it, even though I know as he's 19 years old there's not much I can do. He already has the top half of his right arm covered and I thought that was enough. Now this. At the end of the day he has to live with what he's done and if he changes his mind in a few year's time it's going to be very difficult and expensive to have them removed. He's been through the dyeing his hair and lip piercing (both now grown out or taken out) but tattoos ........ it's the permanency.

I guess it's his body, his choice.

Anyone else been through this?

Jamie

Hi Jamie,
Yes. When my daughter was 10 she kept going on about wanting to get her ear pierced. Because of her closeness to me I was able to joke that she can do it when she was 25 😀
Anyway, by the time she was 16 she said whatever she needed to and we let her get her ears pierced. I felt upset that she had wanted to get this done so much - but I respected her choice. By NO means was this something I casually let my daughter do.
Over the following years she got her ears pierced another two times!!
The one that gave me more to 'deal' with was when she got her belly button pierced before she was 19.
She's now in her 20's and I don't even think about her piercings. It simply doesn't matter i'm so proud of her just as she is!! 🙂

Hi

Been a while for me but when i was 19 I got a tattoo on my left arm,(a memorial one) and my mum was vexed. But to tell
you the truth, she was cool after she saw it a few times, but at least your son is getting his tattoo at 19 and not 15 - 17.

I've not been through this issue yet....To be honest i've got a few tattoos and am always looking for another,I reckon when my lad is old enough to make the decision I will just make sure he's really thought about it propally,I have seen so many people with tattoos that regret certain ones and just have them covered up which looks like a kid has felt tip penned all over them.

I would strongly object to him having one on the hand or neck..

My older daughter had her ears pierced when she was 13 with my permission. Then she had ner nose pierced when she was 17 and told me just afterwards (it was so subtle that I hadn't noticed) and her ear pierces again (she has long hair so I didn't see it). She does want a tattoo when she's 18, says it will be subtle. To be honest, I'm please that she's telling me about it, and hopefully, I'll have some input on what she has done when she does.

My younger daughter also wants her ears pierced - she's 12 now, so I'll probably let her have it done when she's 13 if she still wants it done. Mind you, she's very, very squeamish about injections, so she may decide not to go ahead.

I have a 6 month old son and when he gets older his dad is covered! so my views are going to be different!

my dad didn't want me to have one done and threatened to "cut it out" which he didn't do. First one at 16, on my back and haven't stopped... both sleeves (arms) my whole back and tops of my thighs... not every one's taste and to be honest most people never see them. As a teenager i don't think you really get it.. they are there for good (well unless you want laser therapy) and they start to look ropey after 10 years or so.... but to be honest as soon as my old man said no that was me set! couldn't wait until i was old enough to pass off as 18! they are more acceptable now then ever in society so that is a good thing...

at least there on his feet and not his neck which is quite full on! 😉
