I have joint parental responsibility for my four year old son. Me and my ex were not married and my son has my surname. However he has started saying his name as his mothers surname.

Can my ex change his surname without my permission?

Hi Joe_82,

I have had a simliar problem recently, it's in this thread http://www.dad.info/dad-talk-forum/legal-eagle/17589-changing-baby-s-name

I have sought advice from the UK deed poll and the CCLC link and number are also on that thread and they are very helpful.

The upshot of it is, that she can't change your child's name without your consent.

I hope this helps 🙂
